We all know that being a mother brings love and fulfillment. However, it also comes with a weight or mental load that often goes unnoticed. Moms carry responsibilities that go beyond what is visible. These hidden tasks are important not only for keeping the household running, but also for staying on top of their roles in the workplace.

What are the characteristics of mental load?

The mental load is often overlooked because it is: 1

  • Invisible. These are the mundane, everyday tasks that are often left unrecognized. Did you ever notice how working moms manage to meet work deadlines while juggling school tasks and family schedules at the same time?
  • Boundaryless. It can occur anytime and anywhere. The working moms, for instance, may also take on the role of the “caring coworker,” tidying up the office before leaving or offering emotional support to colleagues.
  • Enduring. This load is continuous because it is tied to how mothers care for their loved ones. They always strive to “get it right,” and over time, this invisible burden can negatively affect their mental well-being.

Overall, this reminds us that moms are even stronger than we often realize. But even the strongest people need support, too. After all, they are human, just like everyone else, with limits and the need to rest.
